In 1906, following the opening of the Simplon Tunnel, the Milan International Exhibition was organized. For the occasion, the Organizing Committee commissioned the Johnson plant in Milan to supply 20 bronze cents tokens so that it could be spent, and converted into legal currency, within the Exhibition.
