The Liberty Head Cent is a general term for three varieties of large-size cent coins produced between 1816-1857. The Coronet Large Cent, also called the Matron Head, was minted between 1816-1835 and features a mature-looking portrait of Liberty surrounded by stars on the obverse. In 1835, the design was changed to make Liberty look younger, and Coronet/Matron Head Cents continued to be minted with the new design until 1839.
