WINGED LIBERTY HEAD OR “MERCURY” (1916-1943)

Although this coin commonly called the Mercury dime, the main device is in fact a representation of Liberty. The wings crowning her cap are Intended to symbolize liberty of thought. The designers monogram AW is to the right of the neck. The Mint also created a smaller dimension 2016 gold Mercury dime.
