1879-CC $1 Morgan Dollar GSA Hoard NGC MS62

1879-CC $1 Morgan Dollar GSA Hoard NGC MS62. This historic coin is a valuable memento of an era in American history when pioneers were challenging the West. The silver in this dollar was mined from the rich Comstock Lode, discovered in the mountains near Carson City, Nevada. The Carson City Mint was established there in 1870, and although it was in existence for a mere 24 years, it produced many coins which have endured as collectors’ items, among them the 13 piece Morgan dollar series of 1878-1893. Their link with a historic period in our nation’s history gives these dollars an added appeal. This coin is a specimen of the Morgan dollar, containing 90% silver, which somehow survived the massive coin melts of the early 1900s. They were discovered by a Treasury audit in 1964, after nearly a century of obscurity in the vaults. Includes COA and box.

1943 Lincoln Wheat Cent (Steel)

1943 Lincoln Wheat Cent (Steel). During World War II, copper was needed for manufacturing ammunition and other military equipment, leading to a shortage of the metal for minting cents. In 1943, zinc-coated steel was selected to produce Lincoln Wheat Cents. The following year, the U.S. Mint returned to a copper alloy made from used ammunition casings; thus, 1943 is the only year during which pennies were made of steel. 1943 steel pennies were produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mint locations. Indian Head Cent (Year Varies)

Indian Head Cent (Year Varies). The Indian Head Cent was produced by the U.S. Mint from 1859 to 1909. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse features a depiction of Liberty in a headdress (which is commonly mistaken for Native American figure), while the reverse features the words “ONE CENT” surrounded by a wreath. It was produced in three varieties. The first, an 88% copper and 12% nickel composition, features a laurel wreath on the reverse and was only released in 1859 from the Philadelphia Mint.  The second variety (1860-1864) differs from the first in that the wreath on the reverse has a shield above the words “ONE CENT”. The third variety (1864-1909) was made of bronze and produced at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints. The Indian Head Cent was replaced in 1909 by the Lincoln Cent.

Lincoln Wheat Cents (Year Varies)

Lincoln Wheat Cents (Year Varies). Lincoln Wheat Cents, also known as wheat pennies (for the ears of wheat on the coin’s reverse) or Lincoln pennies (for the bust of Abraham Lincoln on the coin’s obverse), were minted from 1909-1958. The coin was designed by Victor David Brenner. The 1909-S wheat cent with Brenner’s initials (V.D.B.) on the reverse is the rarest date and mintmark. Lincoln Wheat Cents were produced at the Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver mints. We have bags of 500 mixed date Lincoln Wheat Cents available for $26.50. Two Cent Pieces (Year Varies)

Two Cent Pieces (Year Varies). Two Cent Pieces were minted from 1864-1873. It is notable for being the first U.S. coin to feature the motto, “In God We Trust,” and also for being one of the shortest-lived U.S. coins. The most common date is 1864, which was the coin’s first year of mintage. Nearly 20 million Two Cent Pieces were produced in 1864. There are two types of Two Cent Pieces: the large motto, and the small motto, which is less common. All were produced at the Philadelphia Mint. Please call or visit our showroom for availability.
