Issued in the early 1910’s, these silks were premiums issued by Murad cigarettes to entice smokers to buy their brand of cigarettes. These “tobacco” silks were given away by tobacco companies in the early part of the 20th century when you purchased their premium products. Silks measures approximately 5″ by 7″.

Each of the colleges / universities represented have 10 different sports depicted – runner, hammer throw, shot put, hurdler, baseball pitcher, baseball batter, football, golfer, hockey and rowing. Each silk shows the athlete wearing school colors with the college seal in one of the corners.

Silks are also referred to as a cigarette silk , S22 Murad silk or college silk.
