The Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the United States. It is guaranteed by the U.S. government to contain one ounce of .999 gold.  First minted in 1986, the 1 oz. American Gold Eagle has a face-value of $50 and is guaranteed by the U.S. Government to contain 1 oz. of pure gold from American sources.

The American Gold Eagle is also available in fractional amounts of 1/2 oz. ($25 face-value), 1/4 oz. ($10 face-value), and 1/10 oz. ($5 face-value) of pure gold from American sources.
