In January 1942, following the December 1941 bombings at Pearl Harbor, nearly all paper money circulating in the Hawaiian islands was recalled and replaced with Hawaii Overprint notes, which featured brown serial numbers and overprints of the word Hawaii on both sides so that they could be easily distinguished if they fell into enemy control. This overprint rendered any U.S. currency unlawfully seized in Hawaii worthless due to their easy identification. A separate series of notes were issued as payment for troops in North Africa, consisting of Silver Certificates featuring a yellow seal. Emergency Issue notes were recalled in 1946, though some were kept as souvenirs by military servicemen.

We have many other WWII Emergency Issue Notes than just those listed below. Please call for availability.
