Issued from 1870-1875 by nine national gold banks in California, National Gold Bank Notes were redeemable for their face-value in gold. Circulated in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, and $500, the notes are today exceptionally rare, particularly in higher denominations, with only 630 notes known to exist.
